Greenspoint Futbol Club (GPFC) was approved to compete in a National Semi-Pro league, The United Premier Soccer League (UPSL), so we now have the opportunity to continue to provide the proper platform for high level competition and college exposure for kids in our community. We cater to Houston inner city student-athletes who aim to play college soccer by showcasing themselves against the top UPSL teams while balancing a full academic workload.
We strive to find student-athletes who are looking to compete with likeminded teammates on and off the field. Many kids in Houston are unable to complete for local youth travel clubs due to rising financial costs so we found countless kids who were willing to dedicate their time but just wanted a chance to do show what they offered. 4 years later and we are graduating our first group. With a combined team GPA of 3.0, the entire Class of 2019 will attend college in the fall plus as of today 7 have concrete offers to compete this fall at the NCAA, NAIA or NJCAA level.
Although every child dreams of being a professional soccer player we instill to each kid that having a similar drive as a student is just as important. Our kids train with a professional mindset but they also take their academics just as serious. We provide an educational safe space for our athletes to study and complete any academic tasks. We ensure all of our kids are taking their standardized tests and are attending the appropriate camps to be evaluated by college coaches.
The UPSL was founded in 2011 and currently includes more than 300 teams Nationally. The UPSL is the fastest growing Pro Development League in the USA, with 400-plus teams targeted for 2019/20 Season. UPSL teams are all eligible to participate in the U.S. Open Cup Qualifying Rounds through the leagues affiliation with the U.S. Soccer Federation (USSF) and the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA). Athletes competing in the UPSL are able to maintain eligibility with their High School and College associations.
Although we get tons of interest to participate it is has been tough to secure consistent financial backing for our program to run as efficiently as we would like. For the past 4 years our players have worked part time to pay for our youth league fees and uniform. Now entering a semiprofessional league means higher costs. We are needing help with travel costs, uniforms, warm up kits, UPSL league cost, and referee costs.
We appreciate you taking your time to read up on our program and would be thankful for any type of support.
